The 58th National awards have just been announced and many artists from the Tamil industry have been declared winners. Aadukalam had a very good showing, picking up six awards. Vetrimaaran was given awards for best direction and best screenplay and Dhanush was adjudged the best actor for his inspired performance. The film also picked up an award for best choreography by Dinesh. Endhiran also impressed scooping up three awards for special effects, art direction, and production. Saranya Ponvannan received an award for her turn in Thenmerku Paruvakattru and Vairamuthu, got an award for his lyrics in the same movie. Thambi Ramiah won in the best supporting actor category for his delightful role in Mynaa. Our hearty congratulations to the winners, you have made us proud!

Tamil cinema is dominating the 58th National awards. Dhanush has bagged the prestigious Best Actor award for his outstanding performance as KP Karuppu in the film, Aadukalam. Aadukalam has won five awards for Best Actor, Best Director (Vetrimaran), Best Screenplay (Vetrimaran), Best Editor ( Kishore Te) and Best Choreographer (Dinesh Master). Thambi Ramiah won in the best supporting actor category for his comedy cop role in Mynaa. Rajinikanth’s Shankar directed Enthiran bagged three awards for special effects, art direction (Sabu Cyril), and production. Vairamuthu, is the best lyric writer for his song in Thenmerukku Paravakattu. Saranya Ponvannan gets the best actress award for Thenmerukku Paravakattu.

In the never ending speculation of whose film releases when, every film is subject to an uncertainty of when it will release. Kaavalan was said to be postponed or at least reports claimed that it got lesser theaters out of all the films releasing for Pongal. Since it was too early, Kavalan took full measures to sort this problem out but now Aadukalam is in trouble. It seems like only on the release date, which film has released can be known. Two reasons are attributed to the postponement of release, if it ‘were’ to happen. Although it is most likely that it may release for Pongal, the element of doubt suggests that it may be postponed by at least two weeks. Dhanush’s Uthamaputhiran, a remake of Telugu super hit Ready, has completed 50 successful days at the box office recently. The film is directed by Mithran K. Jawahar and Genelia plays the female lead. The film, starring Bhagyaraj, Jayaprakash and Vivek in important roles, was released in more that 600 screens. Produced by Balaji Studios Pvt. Ltd., Uthamaputhiran is Dhanush’s third movie with Jawahar. The film has tremendous title value, as it is a Sivaji Ganesan super hit title of the 1960s.

Dhanush is delighted that his Deepavali release Uthamaputhiran has been sold at a record price in all areas.
