The Braves swept 2 from the Mets yesterday ( 4-2 and 4-0 ) to climb to 6-8 (ouch). The NBA playoffs started finally (regular season is way to damn long) and Rose showed why he's MVP material in leading a 10 point comeback for the Bulls (104-99) over Indiana. The Hawks took down Dwight Howard and the Magic 103-93 behind Joe Johnson's 25 and Jamal Crawford's 23. The old guys (Nowitzki and Kidd) for Dallas showed they still got some hops as they took out Portland in game 1 (89-81) and finally the 76'ers are still not quite there, but getting closer as they started strong against the Miami Heat, but faded as James, Wade and company turned up the defense and put it away ( 97-89 ). Sarah Palin spoke at a tax day Tea Party rally in Madison, WI (home of the fleabaggers) as she tried to explain to the unions that without Walker as Gov, quite a few of them would be home without a job. Breitbart had some special things to say to quite a few of them himself [heh]. And the sea...

Sense

By MICHAEL KUNZELMAN, Associated Press Writer Michael Kunzelman, Associated Press Writer – 1 hr 30 mins ago NEW ORLEANS – A federal judge struck down the Obama administration's six-month ban on deepwater oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico as rash and heavy-handed Tuesday, saying the government simply assumed that because one rig exploded, the others pose an imminent danger, too. The White House promised an immediate appeal. The Interior Department had imposed the moratorium last month in the wake of the BP disaster, halting approval of any new permits for deepwater projects and suspending drilling on 33 exploratory wells.( link ) Of course the Government will appeal, but at least this judge can see what the ban would do to the economy (especially in the areas where thousands of jobs would be lost). In this 'recovery' we need more jobs and more resources, not less.

(Un)Employment

From the 'worst' news of the Patterico post [by DRJ]: • 411,000 were census jobs • 31,000 were temporary help services (BP clean-up hires?) • 215,000 jobs were “created” using the BLS “birth-death” mathematical model If you remove the 657,000 temporary and formula jobs from the reported 431,000 jobs added, you’re left with a stunning stat: The economy actually lost 226,000 jobs last month. This is bad indeed

Arrested

Image
Someone should be ... shot for this one: Springfield, Virginia resident Eric Williamson was arrested and charged with indecent exposure yesterday for failing to put on any clothes after getting up at 5:30 am to make some coffee. A woman and her 7-year-old daughter had cut across Williamson's front yard and saw him through his kitchen window.( Reason ) Can we now assume that every naked lady in her own home 'wants to be seen'? I think not

Criminal Arrest

Image
I wonder if anyone in Hollywood will sign a petition to keep this guy out of the country: Interior Ministry spokeswoman Sabine Hadad said Wednesday that Nelson, 59, was convicted last year in a California court on 52 counts of sexual abuse of minors and sentenced to 110 years in prison.( link ) Thanks to Interpol and Israel another scumbag will be coming home to rot.

Socialized Idiocy

Image
Idiotic Story of the Day: A West Yorks farmer has been slapped with a £150 fine for keeping a cow in a darkened barn and therefore failing to 'meet the psychological needs' of the bovine. Ronald Norcliffe, 65, was nabbed under the Animal Welfare Act in August 2008 when operatives from Kirklees Environmental Health department and the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) visited his Scammonden farm on a tuberculosis test mission.( link ) Poor cow :( Now I wouldn't keep a cow in a dark barn without a good reason, but did they ask the cow what it thought of the situation? Just as likely as fining a man for failing to meet the 'psychological' needs of a bovine eh? The barn (dark at that!) was where the farmer planned on keeping his cow and its calf during the winter (cold ya know) and the people who know better( TM ) didn't think that was a good idea. NCAA View of Alabama

Ouch According to documents released Tuesday, the NCAA in responding to Alabama's textbook appeal called Alabama a "serial repeat violator" with an "abysmal infractions track record" and an "extensive recent history of infractions cases unmatched by any other member institution in the NCAA." I'm a SEC guy and love to see the conference win the NT every year (almost), of course I don't actually like every team and have hated Alabama since I was little :) I don't actually hate them anymore (the one good thing from the BCS?) but that doesn't mean I can't poke fun at them from time to time [most of the fans I know around here are big Roll Tide people, so this just makes it all the better].

Don't Poke Me!

Image
Police in Hendersonville, Tennessee have obtained screen grabs of the victim's Facebook page showing evidence of the poke, according to the local newspaper The Tennessean. Jackson, who lives in Hendersonville, faces up to a year in prison and fine of $2,500 if she is found guilty of breaching the protection order. She is due to appear in court later this month. ( link ) Kind of a silly article, but if you're not supposed to contact someone, I guess poking on Facebook would be contacting them. Although you can't do anything but 'poke' with that feature and afaik it can be blocked, I really see no reason for the police to be involved in this one. Of course I'm not involved in this (even if it's close to me) so I don't really have a say in it. Tags: Facebook , news , Hendersonville

Climate Porn

How can you tell it's the biggest lie in government? ... far below the 25-40 percent cuts by then that the U.N. climate panel and developing countries say rich nations should support to avoid dangerous climate change. [emp added LN] Simply read that sentence and remember that China (the #1 'bad' producer would be exempt. If any of these people were serious about climate change (heh) then they would be attacking all countries, regardless of wealth in an effort to stymie the flow of 'global warming emissions'.

Rapist Still in Jail

Image
In 'other' world news today, Roman (drugged and anally raped a 13 year old) Polanski is still in jail after the Swiss denied his attempt to get out. [There is still the matter of the criminal court upholding the recommendation, but the Swiss are usually very good at upholding treaties.] Polanski was accused of plying the underage girl with champagne and part of a Quaalude pill during a modeling shoot in 1977, and raping her. He was initially indicted on six felony counts, including rape by use of drugs, child molesting and sodomy. He pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of unlawful sexual intercourse. In exchange, the judge agreed to drop the remaining charges and sentence him to prison for a 90-day psychiatric evaluation.( link ) Nice leade eh? That's paragraphs 14 & 15, not para 1. Although the article is nicely written and leaves only small things out, the habit of putting the 'good stuff' so far down is annoying. Most people don't ten...

Climate Porn

Image
Good news on the Climate Porn front: WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama's top energy adviser said Friday there is no way Congress will be able to pass a bill on climate change this year. "That's not going to happen," said the adviser, Carol Browner. Browner made the statement at a conference organized by The Atlantic magazine, just days after Senate Democrats introduced a major bill on climate change. In a video posted on the magazine's Web site, Browner was asked about the prospects of enacting climate legislation by the time negotiations on a global climate treaty begin in December in Copenhagen.( link ) Using the Don Surber time+no=no method this is a treat for the economy and sane people everywhere.
