Recently married in a lavish series of ceremonies in India, Katy Perry and Russell Brand arrived at Sunday’s MTV European Music Awards sporting matching yellow “micro pavé” diamond wedding bands. It was the first appearance together of the perennial celebrity news and gossip subjects since their fabulous wedding. Their seriously blingy fashion accessories were estimated by the Diamond Information Center to be worth around $50,000 to $75,000 each. At the awards show, Katy wowed the photographers and audience in a sexy, short red Jeremy Scott dress before taking home the Best Video award for her hit single “California Gurls.” She paired the dress with blue shoes and wore her hair in a captivating updo.

The latest celebrity news and gossip concerns Rihanna’s absence from friend Katy Perry’s wedding last weekend, and whether it signaled a rift in their friendship. However, all is well, because Rihanna had a very good excuse. According to a source close to Perry, she was finishing an album and had just hired a new manager, the combination of which threw her schedule off. Apparently Perry, one of the world’s top pop music and fashion stars, saved a place for Rihanna, just in case, but she knew it would be difficult for her to make it. Perry and British comedian Russell Brand were wed in Northern India in a lavish ceremony. For the part of the ceremony presided over by a Christian minister, Perry wore a couture dress by fashion designer Elie Saab.

Singer and fashion trend maker Rihanna has been in Paris for Fashion Week, and was recently photographed leaving her hotel wearing a sweater adorned with owls and birds. She took a meeting at the headquarters of fashion industry star Jean Paul Gaultier while in the City of Lights. Rihanna also recently revealed that she and pop sensation Katy Perry have become good friends and that the two plan to collaborate on a song. They have not decided whether the duet would be for Rihanna’s upcoming Loud! Album or for a re-release of Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream. Rihanna said, “We just clicked,” by way of explanation of her personal and professional friendship with Perry.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand are planning to tie the knot this month, but unlike a lot of celebrity news and gossip about weddings, the news looks “utterly mundane” to quote the groom. Russell Brand recently told Heart 106.2’s Harriett Scott that the wedding will feature a first dance and a wedding dinner, and that he’s letting his bride plan everything. This latest bit of celebrity news comes with a more humane side, too: the couple has asked their famous wedding guests to refrain from showering them with gifts and give to charities instead. Said Brand, “Katy has got a good job, and I’ve got a good job, it seems indulgent to ask for more things.” One of the mysteries remaining when it comes to the wedding is what type of wedding dress Perry will wear.
